About Lerato Sokhulu
Lerato is a dynamic media professional, performer and comedian with more than a decade of experience spanning broadcasting, television production, content creation and live performance. Originally from Durban, she developed her creative and production skills through a BA in Live Performance and TV Producing from AFDA Cape Town. She began her career as a Programmes Manager and Content Producer at community radio station Imbokodo FM, laying the foundation for an exciting career in South African media.
Her radio journey soon took her to Gagasi FM and later Vuma FM, where she worked as a radio personality and content producer. Her talent and creativity were recognised with a nomination for Best Night Time Show at the 2018 Liberty Radio Awards. Driven by her passion for television and storytelling, Lerato returned to the screen, taking on roles as a Scriptwriter and Content Producer for SABC 3's Afternoon Express and the Expresso Morning Show. Her versatility and distinctive voice have also led to collaborations with major broadcasters and award-winning advertising agencies, establishing her as a highly sought-after voice-over artist.

Lerato's talents extend well beyond broadcasting. She made her stand-up comedy debut at the 2019 Shnit International Short Film Festival Awards and has continued to make her mark on the comedy circuit. In 2024, she was selected as one of the Top 20 newcomers for the Savanna Comics' Choice Awards Showcase, followed by becoming a finalist in the 2025 Jive Funny Festival Newcomer Show. Her sharp observations, infectious personality and natural comedic timing have quickly established her as an exciting emerging voice in South African comedy.
Combining her love of performance, storytelling and music, Lerato also hosts and produces the South African Jazz Show on Smile FM. With an infectious laugh, sharp wit and an eccentric yet down-to-earth personality, she brings authenticity and energy to everything she does. Whether behind a microphone, writing for television, performing on stage or connecting with audiences through comedy, Lerato continues to build a reputation as one of South Africa's most versatile and exciting emerging performers.
