About SboNdaba Dance

SboNdaba Dance is contributing to change the future of the performing arts in South Africa, they are focusing on the immediate goals of developing performance and teacher training skills, creating work opportunities, generating uniquely South African choreography, increasing accessibility to the arts, establishing extra-mural outreach teaching programmes, and assisting communities to recognize their creative assets.

This recently constituted professional company focuses on growth in the industry by creating employment for artists on many diverse platforms: theatre and festival performances, outdoor performances in parks, on streets, in community hubs and on beaches, commercial work, conferences, film and video, international collaborations, community workshops and outreach teaching. They take dance to people where they are.

 

SboNdaba Dance Members

There are three founding members of Sbondaba Dance, Sbonakaliso Ndaba is the director who was born and educated in Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal, trained at Jazzart dance theatre in Cape Town under the direction of Alfred Hinkel.

Jennifer Van Papendorp is a dance educationist, lecturer, curriculum planner, writer and arts administrator. After a long career as a dancer, teacher and lecturer, she was a founding member of Indoni Dance Arts & Leadership Academy serving as Managing Director until her resignation in September 2021.

Paula Kelley is an operations director she has previous experience in the NGO dance organization space and was as a founding Co-Director of Ballet Theatre Afrikan (BTA) together with Martin Schonberg. BTA was a Dance Academy, Junior and Professional Company based in Gauteng from 1995 to 2007.

She is a qualified SAQA Arts Administration and Dance Teacher Assessor and an Examiner of the DanceCor Dance Teacher’s Association.
